Bear Essentials from the desk of Mrs. Norton

Welcome to all families, both our returning ones and the new families joining our Moncure community.
I am beginning my third year as assistant principal at Moncure Elementary.  One exciting thing about being assigned to Moncure is that Mr. Machi and I taught one year together twelve years ago before joining together again as administrators.  We are very excited about the growth and gains our school made last year as a team.  We look ahead to continued success at Moncure for all of our students.  A common goal of ours is providing our students with a caring environment and high expectations for success.
This begins my twenty first year in Stafford County Public Schools.  I was a paraprofessional for nine years here at Moncure before becoming a teacher.  I have taught third, fourth and fifth grades and served with primary children in the reading remediation setting.  I taught one year at Hartwood Elementary, five years here at Moncure and three years at Margaret Brent Elementary before returning to Moncure.  Serving in various parts of the county I have found that kids want to learn and have a desire to do well no matter where they attend school.  I truly believe that we make a difference each day for a better tomorrow.

My philosophy in education is quite simple.  I believe that all children can learn and each child should have the opportunity to learn in an environment that is safe and not disruptive to others who are learning.  Children need to be engaged in their learning and willing to take risks knowing that their ideas are valued.  In the midst of all this, humor is vital to daily living.  We need to be able to laugh at ourselves and laugh with others.

Each quarter I will feature noteworthy items for your benefit.
